What is the exam format?
SACAA exams are presented in a digital, multiple choice format. Depending on your license level and the subject to be written, the amount of questions, mark allocation and time to complete the paper will vary.

The pass mark for all SACAA exams is 75%
How long do I have to finish my exams?
A candidate has 18 months from the date of the first exam passed in order to complete their subjects.

Instrument Rating Exam and General Radio Exam are not included in the 18 month period as they are not licensing exams!
I failed, now what?
This will depend on your level of license and result obtained.

PRIVATE PILOTS
In the event of a failure, irrespective of the result, you may book to write another exam attempt seven days later (ie) write a week later.

CPL/ATPL PILOTS
In the event that you failed with a mark below 50%, you will enter a two month ban for the particular subject. You may continue to attempt other subjects during this time.

In the event that you failed with a mark between 50% and 74%, you may book another exam attempt seven days later (ie) write a week later. You can undertake three attempts, if you do not pass in these attempts you will enter the two month ban.
How does the two month ban work?
The two month ban does not apply to the PPL exams, only the CPL and ATPL exams!

How do I get into the ban?
One of two scenarios will result in a ban:
-
You fail an exam with a result below 50%
-
You fail the same subject three times in a row, irrespective of mark

What happens after two months?
Once the ban is lifted, you may attempt the subject again. If you fail, you will immediately enter the ban irrespective of your result.
